The Department of Medicine runs a daily medicine OPD and gives internal Medicine consults to patients of Respiratory Medicine attending the Institute’s OPD and IPD. The department manages a variety of chronic medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension, cardiac diseases, renal failures, neurological complication, etc. It also provides consults on issues like arrythmias, dyselectrolytemia, septicaemia etc to patients admitted in the respiratory ICU at the institute. The department has special expertise in managing toxicities of newer and other DR TB drugs.
Department of Medicine also runs a free ART Centre under the aegis of National AIDS Control Organization. The centre is having one Senior Medical Officer (SMO), one Counselor, one Data manager, one Staff nurse and one Lab technician. Comprehensive HIV care facilities are provided at the ART Centre. These include free of cost antiretroviral therapy, free CD 4 testing, treatment and prophylaxis of opportunistic infections, patient and family counseling as well as pre-ART support and care services. The centre follows stringent recording and reporting procedures and regularly reports to the National AIDS Control Organization.
