Department of Thoracic Oncology: Department of Thoracic Oncology started w.e.f
01/01/2022. Department is looking after Lung Cancer Clinic, Tobacco Cessation Centre &
Interventional Bronchoscopy Suit. In the lung cancer clinic, all newly diagnosed lung cancer patients
from the institute and outside the institute are discussed and their treatment is decided based upon
the lung cancer stage and performance status of the patient. All the patients who consume tobacco
(chewable and smoke) are referred from the OPD and indoor wards to the Tobacco Cessation Centre
(TCC). In the TCC, these patients are told the harmful effects of the tobacco and counselled for
quitting tobacco. If only counselling is not sufficient then pharmacotherapy is also prescribed. After
initial counselling these patients are regularly followed after to ensure tobacco cessation.
