Training is one of the important objectives of the Institute. Institute has been pioneer in “Training the Trainers” from all over the country in the field of tuberculosis. Some of the activities undertaken in the department are
- Training of Medical and Paramedical staff on National programme in collaboration with Central TB Division (Ministry of Health).
- CME, Seminar and workshops for developing guidelines on TB programme
- International trainings on TB management for trainees from Korea, Bhutan, Sri Lanka etc.
- International trainings in collaboration with UNION, WHO, FIND etc.
- WHO collaborating centre for training in TB & TB-HIV
- National centre for training on “Infection Control”
- Microbiology trainings on Diagnostic methods for National & International candidates
- Nursing Education Cell- Training of nurses on Management of TB and Drug resistant TB
- Digital training platform – NITRD ECHO sessions
- Facilitating trainings on Non-TB Respiratory Diseases.
Institute has also been organising workshops, seminars, CME programmes and symposiums on the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) and Programmatic management of Drug resistant TB (PMDT). Some of the important decisions in the formulation of the National Strategy in the country have emanated as a result of these workshops and seminars. Seminars involving Medical college teachers, professors and TB specialists were conducted for developing “Guidelines on management of Pediatric TB, Guidelines for Infection control etc. Training modules for training the paramedical staff and Nurses on PMDT were developed in the Institute. Modules for training of private practitioners were also developed in the Institute. Regular trainings for the faculty of medical collages are organized in the Institute.
Institute conducts trainings for International candidates from different countries on “Management of TB and DR-TB”. Trainees from Korea, Bhutan, Sri Lanka etc. attend the trainings regularly. International trainings for candidates from India and neighboring countries are regularly organized in collaboration with UNION, FIND & WHO. Institute is also recognized as the “WHO collaborating centre for trainings on TB & TB-HIV”.
The Department also organizes training in collaboration with Department of Microbiology, Central TB Division and other agencies on different diagnostic modalities like- Line Probe Assay, CBNAAT, Liquid Culture and DST etc.
The Institute is pioneer in starting the digital trainings through ECHO platform. It is a knowledge sharing platform where the Institute is the Hub and the chest clinics from Delhi and other parts of the country are the spokes. In last 3 years more than 15,000 manhours of training is conducted digitally and in the current year more than 40 training sessions and 2500 manhours of training done.
Senior Faculty of the Institute have been instrumental in mentoring various trainings at the National and International level.
